NARNAY / Platform comparison
The practical difference between lil SOLID and lil HYBRID is what the device needs to work. SOLID heats a compatible tobacco stick with a pin. HYBRID combines a dedicated tobacco stick with a separate liquid cartridge, so changing platforms also changes the consumables you need.
This guide compares the two systems, with lil SOLID Ez and lil HYBRID 3.0 as named reference models. Regional SOLID 4.0 and SOLID DUAL differences are explained where they affect compatibility or format.
Quick answer
lil SOLID vs lil HYBRID: what is the difference?
lil SOLID is a pin-heating tobacco system; lil HYBRID requires MIIX tobacco sticks and a lil HYBRID liquid cartridge. Fiit and MIIX are separate consumables. A SOLID device cannot be converted into HYBRID by inserting a cartridge, and Fiit is not a substitute for MIIX.

| Feature | lil SOLID | lil HYBRID |
|---|---|---|
| Heating system | An internal heating pin enters the tobacco stick. | A dedicated tobacco stick works with liquid from a separate cartridge. |
| Designated sticks | Fiit. Additional official compatibility depends on model and market. | MIIX, used with the specified lil HYBRID cartridge. |
| Liquid cartridge | No liquid cartridge in the SOLID models covered here. | Required, in addition to the tobacco stick. |
| Routine chamber cleaning | Required. Use the correct model’s cleaner and procedure. | HYBRID 3.0 guidance says routine cleaning is unnecessary; troubleshooting care may still be required. |
| Reference session limit | SOLID Ez: up to 5 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. | HYBRID 3.0, Japanese guidance: up to 5 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. |
| Reference battery figure | SOLID Ez: up to 25 sticks per charge, depending on conditions. | HYBRID 3.0, Russian guidance: approximately 20 sessions, depending on mode. |
How the two heating systems work
SOLID system
Device + compatible stick
The device’s pin heats the tobacco from inside. In SOLID Ez, the heater and battery sit in one body. There is no separate liquid supply to install.

HYBRID system
Device + MIIX + cartridge
The tobacco stick and liquid cartridge have different jobs within one system. Both must match the device. A charged battery and a pack of sticks alone are not the complete HYBRID setup.

PMI lists Fiit for SOLID Ez and MIIX for HYBRID as distinct tobacco-stick families. The Japanese HYBRID guide also describes HYBRID as heated tobacco using liquid and a tobacco stick together. Its liquid component does not make it a conventional refillable vape.
Can Fiit, MIIX, HEETS or TEREA be swapped?
Fiit and MIIX cannot be exchanged between SOLID and HYBRID. The shared lil name does not identify a universal stick format. Use the full device name and its regional instructions when checking a pack.

| Consumable | SOLID Ez: Polish guidance | SOLID 4.0 / DUAL: Russian guidance | HYBRID 3.0 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiit tobacco stick | Designated | Designated | Not compatible |
| MIIX tobacco stick | Not compatible | Not compatible | Required with cartridge |
| HEETS tobacco stick | Fiit-only specification | Also officially listed | Not compatible |
| TEREA induction stick | Not compatible | Not a designated consumable | Not compatible |
| lil HYBRID liquid cartridge | Not used | Not used | Required alongside MIIX; cannot replace the stick |
TEREA uses an internal metal element designed for IQOS ILUMA’s induction system. PMI explicitly excludes lil SOLID Ez and lil HYBRID from TEREA compatibility. Do not alter a stick to make it fit.
What does the lil HYBRID cartridge do?
The cartridge supplies liquid used by the hybrid system. It is separate from the MIIX tobacco stick and is replaced when depleted. Russian HYBRID 3.0 guidance says the cartridge must not be refilled or dismantled, and use should stop when its liquid has run out.
Think of the liquid indicator as a separate check from the battery indicator. Recharging the device does not replenish the cartridge. Equally, installing a new cartridge does not replace the need for a fresh compatible tobacco stick.
The manufacturer explains that mode affects cartridge consumption. Avoid treating an advertised nominal capacity as a guaranteed replacement schedule. For the actual unit, follow its liquid-level indication and regional manual.
Cleaning: the main difference in everyday care
SOLID: care for the heating pin
SOLID Ez needs routine cleaning. IQOS Malaysia recommends cleaning after 20 uses and describes the designated cleaning tools and heat-cleaning function.
Let the device cool first. Its user guide requires approved cleaning accessories and warns against cleaning the device with liquids, oils or solvents. Use the procedure for your exact model.
HYBRID 3.0: monitor the cartridge
IQOS Japan says routine cleaning is not required, while allowing for cleaning during troubleshooting. Cartridge replacement remains a separate task.
This does not mean every fault should be ignored. For leakage, an error or an obstruction, follow the relevant HYBRID instructions. A SOLID pin-cleaning routine is not a general procedure for HYBRID.
For button sequences, LED meanings and detailed Ez maintenance, use our lil SOLID Ez FAQ. Keeping those instructions model-specific avoids applying a reset or cleaning sequence to the wrong device.
What do Ez, 3.0, 4.0 and DUAL change?
A model number identifies a hardware generation within a platform. It does not turn SOLID into HYBRID, and matching numbers on two different families do not imply compatible parts.
- SOLID Ez: the one-piece, Fiit-designated reference used in this comparison. Its published specifications should not be applied to every SOLID.
- SOLID 4.0: the Russian manufacturer overview describes a one-piece pin-heating model with a color display and lists Fiit and HEETS.
- SOLID DUAL: a holder and separate charger. It remains a SOLID platform, with the regional stick compatibility specified in its own instructions.
- HYBRID 3.0: Japanese guidance describes three heating modes, automatic start, a status display and a pause function of up to two minutes. Those features belong to that generation.

What changes when you move between platforms?
The first practical difference is managing consumables. With a SOLID model covered here, the recurring consumable is the designated tobacco stick. With HYBRID, both the MIIX supply and the liquid cartridge need attention.
A price comparison that counts only a MIIX pack leaves out part of HYBRID’s consumable cost. Compare equivalent use and include the share of cartridge consumption. There is no reliable worldwide cost winner without local prices and the exact model’s usage conditions.
- Identify the hardware. Use the full printed model name and country of release before choosing a manual, cleaner or accessory.
- Check existing supplies. Fiit left over from SOLID cannot replace MIIX in HYBRID. A HYBRID cartridge has no role in SOLID.
- Read the care instructions again. Cleaning frequency, controls, charging accessories and fault codes can change with the model.
Our assessment is that these ownership differences are more useful than a generic “better taste” ranking. Manufacturer descriptions cannot establish which aerosol a particular person will prefer, and this comparison does not include a taste or battery test.
NARNAY verdict
Final Verdict
Treat SOLID and HYBRID as separate systems when matching sticks, cartridges and care instructions. SOLID has fewer types of consumables to manage. HYBRID 3.0 adds a liquid cartridge, while its manufacturer describes less routine chamber cleaning.
For an existing owner, the useful first check is the exact model and its designated consumables. The lil name alone is too broad to settle compatibility, maintenance or running cost.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Fiit in lil HYBRID?
No. HYBRID 3.0 is designed for MIIX tobacco sticks with the specified liquid cartridge. Fiit belongs to the SOLID system.
Can I use MIIX in lil SOLID?
No. The manufacturer’s HYBRID compatibility guidance excludes MIIX from lil SOLID. Use the sticks listed for your exact SOLID model and market.
Does lil SOLID need a liquid cartridge?
No. The SOLID models covered in this guide heat compatible tobacco sticks with a pin. The separate liquid cartridge is part of the HYBRID system.
Can lil HYBRID work without MIIX or without its cartridge?
It is designed to use both. The cartridge does not replace the tobacco stick, and a charged device does not compensate for a depleted cartridge. Do not improvise another combination.
Can I use HEETS in every lil SOLID?
Do not assume so. Polish SOLID Ez guidance specifies Fiit only, while Russian instructions also list HEETS for SOLID 4.0 and DUAL. Follow your own model’s regional documentation.
Is lil HYBRID a tobacco-free or nicotine-free product?
No. HYBRID uses a MIIX tobacco stick, and the product delivers nicotine. A liquid cartridge does not remove the tobacco component or make the aerosol risk-free.
