The wider answer depends on the country: Japan also has MEVIUS and CAMEL tobacco sticks made specifically for Ploom, while Germany and selected European markets have introduced tobacco-free, nicotine-containing LYO sticks.

“Ploom sticks” is therefore an umbrella search term, not one identical worldwide range. Only use a sealed pack that explicitly names Ploom or the exact Ploom device family. A matching shape, familiar brand name or seller description is not enough to establish compatibility.

Important: “tobacco-free” does not mean nicotine-free or risk-free. LYO contains nicotine, while EVO, MEVIUS and CAMEL Ploom sticks contain both tobacco and nicotine.

What are Ploom sticks?

Ploom sticks are sealed consumables designed to be heated inside a compatible Ploom device. HeatFlow warms the stick without deliberately igniting it, producing an inhalable aerosol during a timed session. The stick is removed and discarded after one session.

Are Ploom sticks cigarettes?

No. Tobacco-containing Ploom sticks may resemble short cigarettes, but they are engineered for a device and should never be lit with a match or lighter. LYO looks similar but replaces tobacco with a nicotine-containing plant base. Ordinary cigarettes are not Ploom sticks and must not be inserted into a Ploom device.

Do all Ploom sticks contain tobacco?

Do Ploom sticks contain nicotine?

Yes. The current EVO, LYO, MEVIUS and CAMEL Ploom families discussed here contain nicotine. In tobacco sticks, nicotine is associated with the tobacco material; LYO contains nicotine despite having no tobacco. Nicotine is addictive, and color or flavor is not a reliable measure of delivered nicotine.

Do Ploom sticks produce smoke or ash?

In normal device use they are heated rather than burned, so they produce aerosol rather than conventional cigarette smoke and do not create cigarette ash. A used stick can still be hot, discolored and odorous. If a stick catches fire or visibly burns, stop using the device and allow it to cool safely.

How many Ploom stick flavors are there?

There is no meaningful worldwide total because markets carry different brands and variants. Japan alone will have 32 officially listed Ploom tobacco-stick variants after MEVIUS Tropical Option launches on October 6, 2026, while many international markets carry a much smaller EVO selection and some also offer LYO.

Which Ploom stick tastes most like plain tobacco?

Start with a variant described as Regular or a tobacco-led EVO color without “Option,” “Crystal,” fruit or mint wording. EVO Bronze and Deep Regular profiles are commonly positioned as fuller choices, while Gold, Silver, Smooth Regular or similar names are generally milder. Which Ploom stick is the strongest?

Why are Ploom stick names different between countries?

Brand strategy, local taste preferences, tobacco and flavor rules, tax categories and launch schedules differ. The same color can have a different description, and a product available in one country may be absent or restricted in another. Avoid converting names across markets unless the manufacturer explicitly identifies them as equivalents.

Are discontinued Ploom flavors still compatible?

Discontinuation does not automatically change the original device design, but age, storage conditions and counterfeit risk become more important. What is ActivBlend in EVO sticks?

ActivBlend is JTI's name for the characteristic EVO tobacco blend developed specifically for Ploom. Official descriptions say it uses selected tobacco leaves that are blended and cut for consistent heating and flavor. It is a blend name, not a separate capsule or device setting.

What is CleanSeal on an EVO stick?

CleanSeal closes the tobacco end of the stick to reduce loose tobacco falling into the heating chamber. It helps keep the device cleaner but does not eliminate routine chamber inspection and cleaning. Never peel, cut or puncture the sealed end before insertion.

Do EVO sticks contain propylene glycol?

Do EVO sticks have flavor capsules?

Some do. Names such as Green Option, Purple Option and several Japanese Crystal variants identify capsule-style products. Plain tobacco or menthol EVO variants may not contain a crush capsule. Look for a capsule symbol and instructions on the exact pack instead of squeezing every filter.

Can EVO sticks be used without crushing the capsule?

Usually yes when the pack describes the capsule as an optional flavor change: the base profile can be used before activation and the capsule can be clicked before or during the session. Are EVO sticks compatible with all Ploom devices?

Can EVO sticks be used in IQOS ILUMA or glo?

No. IQOS ILUMA uses induction sticks such as TEREA, DELIA or LEVIA, while glo devices use their own neo, veo, virto or rivo families depending on model. EVO is shaped and formulated for Ploom HeatFlow. Cross-use may fail to start, heat incorrectly, create residue or damage the device.

Do EVO sticks expire?

Ploom Germany states that EVO sticks do not have an expiry date, while recommending that an opened pack be used soon for the intended flavor and aroma. LYO tobacco-free nicotine sticks FAQ

LYO is the newest distinct Ploom consumable category covered here and should not be described as an EVO flavor because its heated substrate contains no tobacco.

What are LYO sticks?

LYO are sealed, tobacco-free nicotine sticks designed for Ploom HeatFlow devices. Instead of tobacco, their heated section uses a plant base that carries nicotine and aroma. They are still adult nicotine products and are used for one heating session only.

What are LYO sticks made from?

Official Ploom Germany information identifies the base as neutralized star anise. The plant material is used as a relatively neutral carrier for nicotine and capsule flavor and is formulated for Ploom HeatFlow heating. It is not loose herbal tea and should not be removed from the stick.

Do LYO sticks contain tobacco?

No. LYO's defining feature is a tobacco-free heated substrate. That does not make the product nicotine-free, harmless or suitable for non-users. The pack's legal category may also differ from the category applied to tobacco sticks in the same country.

Do LYO sticks contain nicotine?

Yes. Ploom's German FAQ says LYO contains nicotine and that its nicotine content is comparable with EVO rather than higher. This is not a promise that every person's nicotine uptake will be identical; drawing pattern, device mode and product use can affect exposure.

Which LYO flavors are available?

How does the LYO Aroma Boost capsule work?

The capsule is activated by clicking the marked area in the filter until it crushes. This releases the concentrated aroma into the airflow. Activate it only as directed, do not bite through or puncture the filter, and discard a stick if capsule liquid leaks externally.

What is the difference between LYO and EVO?

EVO contains a tobacco blend and offers tobacco, menthol and flavored regional profiles. LYO replaces tobacco with a neutralized star-anise plant base, contains nicotine and currently centers on capsule-driven mint or berry profiles. Both are single-use Ploom consumables, but they are different product categories.

Are LYO sticks compatible with Ploom AURA and Ploom X Advanced?

Yes in the German Ploom system. The manufacturer's current FAQ says LYO can be used with every Ploom device, and its 2026 AURA-versus-X information names both AURA and X Advanced. Because LYO is not officially offered in every Ploom country, imported-device support and local regulatory status should still be checked separately.

Can LYO sticks be used in IQOS, glo or lil SOLID?

No. LYO is formulated for Ploom HeatFlow devices. It is not a SMARTCORE induction stick for IQOS ILUMA, a neo/veo/virto/rivo stick for glo, or a pin-heated Fiit stick for lil SOLID. Similar dimensions do not make these systems interchangeable.

Which sticks work with Ploom X Advanced?

Use EVO or another pack expressly approved for Ploom in the device's market. Japan's current Ploom tobacco-stick notice covers EVO, MEVIUS and CAMEL across Ploom devices, while Ploom Germany says LYO can be used with every Ploom device. Do not infer support from an imported pack's diameter alone.

Do MEVIUS sticks work with Ploom AURA?

Japanese MEVIUS sticks labeled for Ploom do. JT's current Japanese lineup states that Ploom tobacco sticks can be used with all Ploom devices. Ordinary MEVIUS cigarettes and MEVIUS products made for a different system do not become compatible simply because they share the brand name.

Do CAMEL sticks work with Ploom AURA?

Japanese CAMEL tobacco sticks specifically labeled for Ploom do. CAMEL cigarettes, rolling tobacco and consumables for another device are not substitutes. Check for Ploom wording and the Japanese heated-tobacco product designation on the sealed pack.

Can I use TEREA or HEETS in a Ploom device?

Can I use Fiit sticks in Ploom?

Can a Ploom stick that fits physically still be incompatible?

Yes. Diameter is only one factor. Stick length, airflow, substrate density, moisture, filter construction, capsule placement and the device's temperature profile all matter. A physically fitting stick can heat badly or damage the chamber, which is why pack-level manufacturer approval is the safest test.

How can I verify a Ploom stick before using it?

Read the full product name, not only the color or parent brand.

How to use, store and troubleshoot Ploom sticks

Correct insertion and dry, moderate-temperature storage solve many weak-flavor and tight-chamber complaints without forcing the stick or opening the device.

How do I insert a Ploom stick correctly?

Open the device's top slider and check that the chamber is clear.
Hold the stick by its filter with the tobacco or sealed end pointing down.
Insert it straight and gently until the printed guide line reaches the rim.
Do not twist, crush or push it below the marked line.
Wait for the device's ready vibration or light before drawing.

Should the CleanSeal end go into the Ploom device?

Yes. On EVO, the closed CleanSeal tobacco end is inserted into the heating chamber and the filter remains outside as the mouth end. Do not remove the seal. If orientation is unclear on another regional stick family, follow the diagram printed on its pack or device guide.

Why will a Ploom stick not go into the chamber?

Stop instead of forcing it. The chamber may contain residue or a broken fragment, the stick may be bent or swollen from humidity, the top slider may not be fully open, or the consumable may be incompatible. Let the device cool, inspect it in good light and clean it only with the recommended tool.

Is it normal for an EVO stick to move during a session?

A small amount of movement can occur as the stick warms. Do not keep pushing it deeper to make it feel tighter. If it rises substantially, becomes very loose or repeatedly interrupts Auto-Start, confirm the stick is genuine and correctly inserted and inspect the chamber after it cools.

Why does nothing happen after I insert a Ploom stick?

Confirm the device has charge and is unlocked.
Use a fresh, compatible stick inserted to the guide line.
Remove it and reopen the slider if Auto-Start did not detect insertion.
Try the official manual-start gesture for the device model.
Clean or reset the device according to its manual if several fresh sticks fail.

Why does a Ploom stick taste weak or stale?

Common causes are an old opened pack, heat or humidity exposure, incomplete capsule activation, wrong insertion depth, drawing before preheating finishes, a low battery, unsuitable mode or chamber residue. Compare several fresh sticks from a sealed pack before concluding that the device is faulty.

What should I do if a Ploom stick breaks inside the device?

End the session and let the device cool completely. Hold the opening downward and remove loose material gently with the official cleaning tool. Do not insert a knife, needle, screw or metal tweezers into the heater. If the fragment will not come out without force, use the manufacturer's service channel.

How should Ploom sticks be stored?

How do I dispose of a used Ploom stick?

Let it cool, then place it in an appropriate closed general-waste container according to local rules. Do not litter, flush, compost or leave used sticks where children or animals can reach them. Packaging components may have separate recycling instructions, but a used nicotine stick should not be placed loose in paper recycling.

Can I open, refill or modify a Ploom stick?

No. Cutting the paper, removing CleanSeal, adding liquid, replacing the substrate or puncturing the filter changes airflow and heating behavior. It can cause leaks, fragments, overheating or exposure to the contents and makes compatibility claims meaningless.

Device compatibility does not answer whether a product is legal to possess, carry or use in a particular location.

Are Ploom sticks risk-free?

No. Heated tobacco and other nicotine products are not harmless. EVO, MEVIUS and CAMEL sticks contain tobacco and nicotine; LYO contains addictive nicotine despite being tobacco-free. Avoid treating the absence of cigarette ash or the words “heated” and “tobacco-free” as a safety guarantee.

Is LYO safer because it contains no tobacco?

Tobacco-free describes the substrate, not an established level of health risk. Ploom's own LYO information warns that using a nicotine-containing plant base does not mean it is less harmful than other products used with Ploom. LYO still creates an inhaled aerosol and contains addictive nicotine.

Are Ploom sticks suitable for non-smokers?

No. They are adult nicotine products and are not intended for minors, non-users of tobacco or nicotine, pregnant or breastfeeding people, or anyone advised to avoid nicotine. Nicotine exposure can create and maintain dependence.

Can Ploom sticks help me quit smoking?
